THE RYQUIN TEAM
Coach Mac grew up in a lacrosse community just outside of Princeton, New Jersey.  After playing varsity
for West Windsor - Plainsboro High School, Steve enrolled at Virginia Tech.  His freshman year was a
medical redshirt, but Coach Mac recovered to contribute to the successful Hokie lacrosse team for his
remaining three years of college.  In addition to serving as Captain and Team President at Virginia
Tech, Steve earned
All-Tournament, All-Conference and All-American awards for his play on the field.
After graduation, Coach Mac traveled across the country and settled in Sacramento, California where he quickly joined the
local men's team,
Streets of London.  While with Streets, Steve served multiple terms as the club President.  Through his
affiliation with this team, Steve met Pete Lee and Pete Winn.  As a group, they co-founded the
Sacramento Valley
Lacrosse Foundation
, a local non-profit organization focused on developing lacrosse in the greater Sacramento
community.  Starting in 2006, Coach Mac has worked with the Jesuit High School varsity lacrosse team, helping the team
earn the distinction of
2009 Champions for the Sacramento Valley Lacrosse Conference.  Coach Mac also led the
Capital City Lacrosse team in the inaugural and now annual Under-19 Lake Tahoe Lacrosse Tournament. He is currently
the head coach of Jesuits Varsity Lacrosse Team
OUR MISSION & OUR GOALS:
A premier lacrosse organization in Greater Sacramento, focused on supporting the growth of lacrosse in the
community through elite, organized training and game opportunities.

FOUNDER: Tasha and Stephen McLaughlin, "natives" of the east coast, but "locals" to Sacramento.

BACKGROUND:
As members of the Sacramento community since 2000, we've had the opportunity to see the birth of youth
lacrosse in our area.  During this time, we've seen the interest in lacrosse grow from a virtual non-existent
state to a fever pitch.  Lacrosse is one of the fastest growing sports in the nation,  that same dynamic holds
true in our community as well.  As wonderful as the growth has been, given the population and geography of
our community, we feel that there is a great opportunity to provide more.

Growing up on the East Coast, there was never a problem finding a great camp or clinic or tournament, etc.
There was never a concern about whether or not those leading the instruction were experienced enough, or
knowledgeable enough.  We were blessed with a wealth of both expert tacticians and learning opportunities.
It was a terrific environment in which to learn the game and improve skills.  We want to provide that
environment to the lacrosse community of Sacramento.

With the exception of the adult men's lacrosse team, lacrosse is still relatively new to the Sacramento Valley.
And that "newness" generally means that there is not enough experienced and knowledgeable
teachers who
are willing and able to meet the rapidly increasing needs of our lacrosse community.  And this is no slight to
those willing to take on this task already.  Rather, it is the impetus for Ryquin Lacrosse.  Ryquin was
developed as a means to support the existing clubs, programs and coaches throughout the area by
providing professional, structured additional instruction, training and game experiences.  Ryquin's efforts
should supplement the efforts of the existing clubs and programs, giving our players the most, and best, that
we can offer.
A graduate from the University of California-Berkeley, Mak is the epitome of a student-athlete, excelling
in both sports and academics.  A local product from McClatchy High School, Mak was a standout
swimmer and water polo player during his high school years.  Upon arrival at Cal, he turned his
attention to the books and to learning valuable life lessons, the most important of which he learned  May
2009, just prior to graduation.  Mak graduated from Berkeley with a bachelors degree in the Classics,

A New Jersey native, Tasha grew up around both men’s and women’s lacrosse.  She spent many years
around the women’s game, as her sister played and starred for the University of Massachusetts.
Tasha has served as the team statistician at both the youth level and in the adult men’s leagues.  From
2000-2006 she was the official scorekeeper for the Streets of London men’s team here in Sacramento.
She has experience with stat keeping, scoring, timing penalties and managing the game clock.  If Tasha
had her choice, “running time” would be the only option for all games.  She has also served multiple terms as the de
facto treasurer for the Streets of London team.

Outside of the game, Tasha earned her bachelors degree from the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of
Music.  Creatively gifted and with an eye for detail, she quickly became an award winning lighting designer.  However the
appeal of finances and traditional work hours drew her out of design.  During her time in Sacramento, Tasha worked in a
variety of positions, including accounting, development and event planning.  Prior to starting her family, she was a
Financial Service Technician with the College of Continuing Education at Sacramento State.  For the past several years
she has worked events for the Sac State Athletics Department, while actively designing and maintaining websites around
the clock.  Although her true around the clock work is with her 4 year old son and 2 year old daughter, with whom she
works diligently to master their “face-off” skills.
For work, Mak has frequently sought out opportunities that regularly interact with different publics.  A long-time member of
the Park Terrace Tennis and Swim Club, Mak spent time as both a swim coach and rec leader.  While at Cal, he worked
at the campus fitness center in a multitude of positions, including customer service and lifeguard.  Through his fraternity,
Mak has also gained valuable experience as their Brotherhood Chair and Manager for Residential Quality Control.  Your
classic "people" person, Mak's positive attitude and willingness to listen have served him well in his numerous
professional experiences.

Pete is retired from the leadership roll of Deputy Superintendent, Sacramento County Office of Education.
He is a well rounded individual in the game of lacrosse.  He was on the varsity lacrosse team at Ohio
Wesleyan University from 1964 and 1965. He Co-Founded the Sacramento Lacrosse Club in 1976 - 1977
and served in a variety of roles including coach, team president and player until 2003.
He still plays the game at both Grand Masters and Super Grand Masters level for the OWU Legends Lax teams in Lake
Placid, NY and at the Florida Lacrosse Classic each year.  Pete served as Chairman for the Ohio Wesleyan University
Lacrosse Alumni Association, 2003 - 2008, as well as founding Chairman for the Sacramento Valley Lacrosse
Foundation between 2003 - 2005. He is the founder and head coach for the Foothill HS Boys Varsity Lacrosse Team.
Pete, also an east coaster now living the life on the west, came from Framingham, MA where he was
captain of his lacrosse team.  He spent 8 beautiful years on the Sacramento Men's Lacrosse Club aka
Capital Lacrosse/Streets of London.  He continued to contribute to the Sacramento lacrosse community
by being a founder for both the Sacramento Valley Lacrosse Foundation and the Jesuit High School
Lacrosse Program.

In between those efforts in 2005 he was the assistant coach at Oak Ridge High School and then became head coach
from 2006-2009 at Jesuit High School.  Because of his continued efforts and ability to bring quality lacrosse to the
Sacramento Area, in 2009 he was named Coach of the Year by the Sacramento Valley Lacrosse Conference.  And Pete
notes, "should have been co-coaches with Steve McLaughlin."  Since stepping down as head coach, Pete still continues
to participate in the area and was recently the assistant coach for 2009 Sacramento Heat All-Star Team that adventured
to Vail.  Pete is currently the head coach at Pacific Grove HS and named 2010/2011  Coach of the Year for CA Central
Region.
